My journey in SEO.

Ten years of creating, testing, making mistakes and measuring, turning curiosity into a method.

I am Manuel, the creator of Potion Services. I have always been curious about computers, the internet, artificial intelligence, operating systems, web development and JavaScript. This part of the journey explains how I got into SEO and why I work the way I do today.

01

Getting started in SEO

Around ten years ago I started my first websites: YourGeekWeb.com and Vivirdetuweb, alongside side projects such as GanarConLaRed. Back then I followed people like Chuiso and Ángel Alegre and tried to put everything I learned into practice.

On Vivirdetuweb I focused on carefully crafted writing, limited content and no noise. On other projects I published more, promoted each piece more actively and experimented more freely. Those side projects were the ones that started growing.

“Carefully crafted” does not automatically mean “good for SEO”.

The first important lesson was uncomfortable and simple: polishing is not enough online. You need to publish, distribute, observe and try again.

Finding my footing

YourGeekWeb became my personal computing blog and my laboratory. SEO recommendations constantly contradicted each other and the algorithms were secret, so I decided to rely on my own data and third-party tests I considered trustworthy.

The website's design was, to put it generously, rough, gloomy and quite geeky. But it attracted attention. It was even included in collections of websites with personality. That taught me that an imperfect design can still serve a purpose if it makes people remember the project.

What started to click
  • Attract attention while staying useful.
  • Publish fresh content that answers a real intent.
  • Distribute: a good article that stays hidden is still hidden.
  • Understand that not all links are equal.

Over time, unexpected signals appeared: mentions from Hostalia and elhacker.net, a citation in a university paper and an article about Brave's affiliate programme that generated around 3,000 dollars. Each result taught me a different part of the system.

From then on I followed two paths: creating and monetising my own websites, and applying what I learned to client projects.

Today

Between 2024 and 2025 we worked with dozens of clients, from the Català-Reinón law firm to Conservas Hoya, a company with a history dating back to 1940. Sectors change; the need to understand a business before publishing does not.

Since 2020 I have used language models to produce content with our own software. It takes more than pressing a button: we combine databases, rules, code, editorial structure and images so that each series contains real information and follows a consistent logic.

This work has generated significant traffic growth and is now part of the Expand and Infinity plans. The important part is everything surrounding the AI that makes a page worth creating.

After years of testing, measuring and discarding formulas, I still see SEO the same way: a practical discipline. Less faith in universal recipes; more data, context and work that can stand up to scrutiny.
